April 2012 - Sussex Cottage | ||||||
The transformation of the large rear courtyard of our State Heritage Listed c1855 Sussex Cottage is complete after plantings & re-design some 18 months ago. Standard roses, box hedges, expaliated lemon tree & thyme between the Mintaro slate are simply thriving thanks to our landscape gardener, Callum Pollett. Guests have really appreciated the ambience of what has become an extra 'room'. Coupled with our Tradies, Rob & Glen in reinstating the large original Germanic attic but now with a large scenic dormer window overlooking the thick vegetation that fills many of North Adelaide's gardens. With a highly polished cork floor with an original large colorful Persian rug & light cream sloping walls with solid timber beams and original 150 year old British c1855 brick walls at either end & plenty of ultra modern L.E.D. downlights, it is a fabulous 3rd bedroom or alternative master bedroom. Australian oak stairs are by leading Adelaide stair maker, 'Top Stairs' who have made oak hardwood with open installed stairs from the entrance sitting room which connects with the large courtyard garden via french doors. Accroutments include quality queen ensemble by Sealy (the Rolls Royce of Sleeping), an Australian Victorian cedar chest of drawers, a Singaporean cane armchair & a canadian spindle back rocker of museum quality. For the guests enjoyment a 2HP split system air conditioner is provided with remote control, as well as superior insulation over the whole roof is installed for comfort just for this bedroom. Incidently the roof has under it's metal tile cladding, a wooden split Jarrah tiled roof from 150 years ago!

With twin expaliated lime citrus trees surrounded by a gradation of evergreen plants including Gardenias, lit at night under L.E.D lighting and partially covered by canvas, awning over a designer wrought iron dining table specially made by ‘Orbst Designs’, our guests will be really able to enjoy eating and drinking outside, while cooking on their very own ‘Weber’ barbeque.
